TB-2 Tumble Barrel | Media Blast & Abrasives, Inc.

The TB-2 Tumble Barrel is one multiple tumble barrel sandblasting options we offer.

Most tumble machine today use the same gun to process the barrel or basket full of parts. Parts that can’t be held because they are too small to process or high volumes of small parts are better and faster blasted when using batch loads. This is the function for all tumble basket or tumble barrel machines.

All Media Blast® Tumble Barrel Options are listed as machine options. Why? While the option can't be purchased without purchase of a Media Blast® sandblasting cabinet, this does allow the tumble barrel options to be added to any machine model, wet or dry, with and without pneumatic conveyor for course to fine abrasives that you need to use for your application.

Barrel capacity is a function of total part weight or total part volume and not all parts are equal. Most full loads are just below the barrel loading entrance hole or about 1/4 to 1/3 volume unless the maximum weight capacity has been exceeded.

TB-2 Tumble Barrel Options

All TB-2 Tumble Barrel Options are added to 48-inch-wide cabinets to permit off setting of the manually operated blast station. TB-1 and TB-2 Tumble Barrels always have the manual blasting station included but shifting to the side is required. This application is for users that spend time manually blasting parts but often need batch load processing of small bulk parts.

The TB-2 tumble barrel, unlike the TB-1, uses the HD Industrial 90-volt DC 1/2 hp variable speed drive found on the production TB-3 and TB-4 optional barrels. The TB-2 includes a slightly smaller 20" diameter tumble barrel with 1-1/2” support shaft capable of handling almost the same loads as the dedicated Production TB-3 that has no manual blasting station. Because the door of a manual blasting Industrial cabinet has the window slope the barrel is slightly smaller to permit barrel clearance of the smaller contoured door configuration of the standard blast cabinet.

The TB-2 option includes the second abrasive gun with gun holder, solenoid operated blast control, jog barrel control, an additional machine side access door and all controls for the 1/2 hp DC variable speed drive motor assembly. The TB-2 does not include the solid-state timer, only the mechanical timer. The safety door interlock is included as standard.  Optional upgrades can also be added to some models allowing additional options like dual filters, automatic reverse pulse cleaning cycle and HEPA after filter for greater dust collector efficiency but we suggest you look at the dedicated TB-3 and TB-4 option with additional features included.

Choose the TB-2 when you also require only some manual blasting unlike the TB-1 that requires only some batch load processing. Always remember you can add the TB-2 Option to any Industrial machine model as long as it’s a 48” wide cabinet.

Model Name:

TB-2 Option

Machine Type:

A barrel option- added to any 48″ wide machine model

Abrasive Delivery:

Wet or dry

Air Specs:

50 cfm barrel gun

Compressed Air Usage TB-2 Option:

56 cfm @ 100 psi (most tumble machines operate at higher pressure because of the distance of the nozzle to the parts)

Suggested Air Compressor:

TB-2 operation requires compressed air in addition to the air usage required by the machine it’s being added to. Check line pressure making sure it’s 100 psi or higher for proper operation of any TB model. Distance from the nozzle to the part requires higher than maximum impact velocity blasting pressure, and while lower pressure will work, the loss of frictional heat and impact velocity can increase processing time.
Note: The machine operates using the manual gun or TB-2 option separately, never both at the same time. The cfm usage of the machine is based on the manual gun size that may be larger than the optional TB-2 gun.
Air compressors vary greatly, check the cfm output on the compressor being used or visit Air Basics for more information on compressor selection.
Pro Tip: Never buy a compressor using the displacement cfm number, always use the second cfm volume number listed with 90-100 psi inside the tank, because tank pressure reduces performance.

Recommended Abrasive Size:

0-150 mesh internal separator

Available 150-240 mesh using any external separator machine model

Additional Abrasive Info:

Varies with machine model, 60 to 150 mesh for internal separator reclaimer, 80 to 240 mesh for pneumatic conveyor operated machines or external separator reclaimer

Most Used Abrasive Type:

Glass Beads, Aluminum Oxide and Silicon Carbide. (Due to distance-to-parts the processing pressure may be higher than maximum impact velocity.)

Dust Collector:

TB-2 option can be added to any new Media Blast 48″ wide model to permit offset operator work station

Key Features:

1/2 hp variable speed DC drive 28 rpm max – 20-inch barrel diameter – special offset manual work station, requires 48″ wide cabinet – 1-1/2″ diameter barrel jack shaft and bearings – production barrel used on the TB-3 with TB-1 timer controls

Paint Specification:

Environmentally friendly, high-grade polyurethane high gloss paint. Standard colors include MBA beige and high gloss light gray. Custom color matching is available using customer supplied color sample, please call 866-204-7068 for pricing.
