Soda blasting, also known as soda abrasive blasting, is a process for surface cleaning and preparation. The process uses sodium bicarbonate, baking soda, to remove unwanted coatings, contaminants, or surface imperfections from a variety of materials. Soda blasting equipment propels the sodium bicarbonate through a nozzle using compressed air.
How is Soda Blasting Different from Sandblasting?
Soda blasting equipment is specifically designed for baking soda rather than glass beads or other hard abrasive materials. This makes it particularly suitable for cleaning sensitive surfaces such as aluminum, fiberglass, chrome, and even delicate materials like wood or marble without causing damage.
Common Uses for Soda Blasting Equipment
Soda blasting is used in various industries including automotive restoration, marine maintenance, graffiti removal, and historical restoration. It offers advantages such as being non-toxic, non-hazardous, and environmentally friendly, as well as producing less dust compared to traditional abrasive blasting methods. Additionally, its natural alkaline properties make it ideal for degreasing and deodorizing surfaces.
