Abrasive Blasting 101 | The Ultimate Resource
Light Duty Blast Cabinets have a lower Daily Duty Cycle (DDC). They are used to blast smaller parts for short durations. So these are great blast cabinets for the right part sizes and applications.
These Light Duty Blast Cabinets normally have smaller gun sizes, clean much more slowly, are usually siphon delivery. They use air compressors operating on 208 or 230-volt single-phase electrical power panels, called the main power panel supply. Unfortunately, some of these abrasive blast cabinets made by other manufacturers are low quality and make a mess. Remember, it’s impossible to operate a Light Duty blast cabinet using a 120-volt air compressor.
Light Duty abrasive blasting cabinets are specifically designed for hand-held parts. These machine models are for lower DDC, 5 to 10 percent maximum, using a smaller gun size. Understand it would take all day to process a large part resulting is a messy area because you exceeded the tool daily usage.
Air Compressors that operate smaller power supplies only have an output volume of 25 cfm at 100 psi maximum. These compressors are harder and harder to find because most are vertical and 25 cfm output vertical pumps have a hard time passing the vibration safety requirements. These vertical compressors use a smaller faster air pump, eliminating the 100% daily duty cycle specifications. These duty cycles are measured in 10 minutes and a 50% duty cycle is 5 minutes on and 5 minutes off for cooling depending on the rating below 100%. Running continuously can ruin the compressor when not rated at 100% Duty Cycle.
At Media Blast and Abrasives, we have a Category of blast cabinets called Light Duty Blast Cabinets. Each of our machines are 14 ga. 100% welded cabinets and have Separator-Reclaimers to remove the dust and spent abrasives. One of the best parts is our blast cabinets include all the controls required and high cabinet air changes per minute for great cabinet visibility; you need to buy nothing to create a complete machine.
The Hobby Blast is our smallest cabinet, and the Cobra Stage II is our largest of the light-duty model in our Light Duty Blast Cabinet Category Lineup. Keep in mind our Light Duty machines are not large enough to process a car fender in, but we have other models for those types of applications because using a Light Duty cabinet’s 20 cfm gun to process any large part creates a mess!
We have been manufacturing Blast Cabinets for Half-Century in the USA. Media Blast® is the company that created the Brand Name most commonly used in the industry, and that should tell you something about our machine quality!
